Ecolab is more than just products - On the ground, our service teams monitor systems and technologies to ensure they are operating correctly and to gather data, share best practices, provide training, promote safety, address challenges and help customers make the most of our technologies and programs. Each of our customer visits lead to a deeper understanding of the customer’s business. This forms the basis for practical recommendations and added value. Examples include cost savings in water and energy consumption and optimization of cleaning and disinfection programmes, thus reducing the consumption of products and working hours. Our involvement also contributes indirectly to the creation of added value and the protection of a brand’s reputation. For this purpose, Ecolab supports its customers in various market segments in correctly fulfilling legal obligations, as well as achieving sustainability goals and improving safety.

We are the global leader in various sectors for a reason. Here at Ecolab it’s all about the big numbers:

  • We work in more than 40 different industries
  • We have employees at nearly 3 million customer sites worldwide.
  • We have over 44,000 Ecolab employees in more than 170 countries provide comprehensive solutions and on-site.
  • We have more than 27,000 sales and customer service employees, which makes up the largest and best-trained sales and customer service team in the industry.

Benelux market leader

35 years ago, when Johannes started at Ecolab – the company consisted of mainly 2 divisions: Institutional and Food & Beverage. In those 35 years Ecolab has expanded to include 8 other divisions, obtained through acquisition and growth. For example, in 2017 Anios Laboratories was acquired and in 2019 Bioquell, a major player in bio-decontamination systems for the Life Sciences and Healthcare industry.

Anno 2021 Ecolab is a market leader in the Benelux in the field of sterile biocides supply in the pharmaceutical industry and works with Big Pharma like GSK, Kite, Pfizer, MSD, Novartis, Abbot, Jansen and other GMP, medical device and pharmaceutical related production environments. The Ecolab Life Sciences “Global Technical Consultants” (GTC) team provides all technical support through free training Webinars, implementing cleaning and disinfection programmes tailored to the customer’s needs, guiding the biocide validation process and Site Surveys to prepare customers for internal/external audits. For our customers we do not only supply the products, but all our knowledge is freely available and usable for every possible challenge.

From audits and compliance to Covid-19

Ecolab also ensures continuity in compliance with local laws and regulations – Our products are registered BPD (Biocide Product Directive) and included in the Biocide Product Regulation (BPR) process. The first registrations under this new European legislation are expected soon. In addition, we support customers to purchase efficiently and achieve the best possible price-quality level, for example by saving water, energy, labour, validation hours and expenses. We distinguish ourselves from our competitors in this respect.

Ecolab is also involved in the production of Covid-19 vaccines through intensive collaboration with several pharmaceutical companies, which are responsible for the production of API’s, boosters and packaging materials. We do not only clean the product contact areas and surfaces (CIP/COP detergents / disinfectants for bioreactors and tanks), but also the most crucial spots in clean rooms (sterile biocides). Covid-19 has put our capacity under immense pressure, but we have responded quickly and increased production capacity smoothly to supply our customers and maintain continuity.

Acquisition market leaders Nalco and Bioquell

The acquisition of Nalco water in Leiden, Netherlands gave an enormous boost to Ecolab’s activities in Healthcare and Life Sciences. We work with customers who are looking for innovative solutions to water problems and limited resources.

In 2019, Bioquell was acquired, adding an international market leader in automated air disinfection systems and services to Ecolab’s growing portfolio. Bioquell specializes in the manufacture and supply of a range of hydrogen peroxide generators, systems and services. These are designed to provide inform inactivation of micro-organisms using their patented saturated vapour technology.

Lastly, Ecolab is also a reliable partner for the fast growing companies in cell and gene therapy with the sterile Klercide portfolio and the Bioquell solutions as first choice.

"The best part of my job is finding solutions to the biggest challenges our planet faces."
